Ignite is a mentor-based formation program for junior and senior high school men who want help discerning and pursuing their Vocation. Convinced that good formation fosters good discernment, this program is focused on human and spiritual formation, fraternity, and intentional mentoring. “Christ, the final Adam, by the revelation of the mystery of the Father and His love, fully reveals man to man himself and makes his supreme calling clear…” (Gaudium et Spes 22). Following the themes in this statement by the Second Vatican Council, the specific areas of formation we concentrate on are prayer, identity, and virtue (principally charity & chastity). We focus on charity and chastity because “the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being” is to love (CCC 1604). Because “the light of discernment… is born in charity” (St Catherine of Siena), and because “only the chaste man…[is] capable of true love” (Pope John Paul II), we feel that it is essential to include these elements of formation into a vocation formation program where discernment can flourish.
